choose an object/project you’re working on in your placement? Printing on t shirts for a streetwear brand using discharge printing. We are using the most eco friendly method of discharge printing that doesn’t contain formaldehydes however it still contains a lot of chemicals.
consider who benefits from it/ who’s needs does it meet? The customer benefits from a limited run, hand printed garment. The brand benefits from a well made, more sustainable garment. As the printers, we are handling less dangerous chemicals having less impact on our health and are not breathing in harmful fumes. Discharge printing is more comfortable and breathable and becomes softer with washing.
what values does it hold through its design? a limited run, hand screen printed t shirt in London holds these values exclusivity, trend awareness, craftsmanship, comfort, more sustainable, safety, wearability, durability.
does it match your values? I think this T-shirt does reflect a lot of my own values as a designer. Iām especially drawn to the balance between trend awareness and craftsmanship. Using a more sustainable and safer printing method aligns with my interest in environmentally conscious design and in reducing harmful materials within production.
how could you adapt this process/T-shirt to include another of your personal values? The t shirts we are printing on are brand new cotton t shirts, we could print onto recycled or organic cotton to further exemplify sustainability.
