Beginning my DPS Year

This week was an exciting week. This week I interned at O’Dell’s Studios and I began my 2nd placement at Orto Print Studio.

On Monday , I assisted on a shoot at O’Dell’s for the shoe brand RM Williams. Tom was the model and there was a separate production team that came in and I was sort of doing the odd assisting jobs. It was fun as we shot in Covent Garden and in various locations in Camberwell. However, with Tom being the talent and another director coming in, I was at a bit of a loss as to how to help out- I find it difficult to not constantly be doing something when I’m at work so was hard  to step back and just watch and learn. I felt a bit like I was useless However at the end of the day, I was thanked for my hard work so I mustn’t have been. It was interesting talking to the director about his career as he started of as a stylist and then moved over to art direction and production, I’ve learnt that on shoots you have to make an effort  talk to everyone as its all a networking opportunity.

I was meant to start at Orto on Tuesday however my boss called in sick on my first day. It’s important to prioritise your health however this was quite demotivating. Therefore I spent my unexpected day off researching for future opportunities as ideally id like to start a different placement in January. My first day at Orto was exciting. It’s at the blue garage which is a really cool co-working space, was fun to be in a building with lots of other creatives and the  resources there seem really good. I got stuck right in with mixing inks and then we began printing with a large screen onto tablecloths. I felt very nervous to start. I find it a bit stressful when I don’t know everything straight away and get things wrong- I know that it is part of being an intern and have to accept that I won’t always be good at everything first try.

Overall, a busy and productive first week!
